Creme Brulée for Game Night

March 1, 2015

Remember those dozen eggs I mentioned that Andy came home with to make my birthday cake?  Well, that’s because angel food cake uses a bunch of egg whites.  The problem is… then you have all these left over egg yolks that you have to figure out what to do with.  Well, Andy has come up with a solution for that.  Creme brulée!  Not only is it yummy, but it’s fun to make… because you get to play with this little blow torch!

Andy usually does this himself, but he wanted the folks at game night to get to eat the creme brulée, and he was out of town (in Florida playing at Harry Potter World!).  So he taught me how to use it and how to put a layer of sugar on and turn it into a sort of candy coating.  Here’s how it looks when it’s just starting to melt.

Sadly, I forgot to take a picture of the finished product, but it was definitely appreciated by all at game night.  Thanks, Andy!

Other game night fun included play testing a game for a friend.  I can’t talk about it, but she had these really cool pieces she bought from somewhere to use as markers.  I love them!

We also had some fun with a hat Alison had made.  Gina noticed the band was actually a scarf she had given Alison a while back.  Alison said it had been too short as a scarf, so she tried to make a hat with the full scarf.  But the diameter ended up too big that way, so it always falls down on her head.  While demonstrating on Gina, we noticed these dots in the pattern that looked just like eyes.

P.S.  Alison says the hat works perfectly for winter sleeping.  It keeps her head and nose warm without making it hard to breathe.  And it keeps the light out for sound sleeping!  🙂
